Mr. Jayesh Jotangia, Chair, INBA, United Kingdom Chapter, International Section

Jayesh Jotangia is a practicing Barrister in the UK and a member of Thomas Bingham Chambers (33 Bedford Row, London).  He was Called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 2002 having graduated with an LLB (Hons) in Law in London and spearheads his Chambers’ India practice. He is the first Chairman of the INBA chapter in the UK.

His main areas of expertise lie in arbitration/mediation proceedings, commercial law and civil litigation, professional regulatory matters and UK-India bilateral trade corporate advisory work on compliance/regulation in UK and cross border jurisdictional matters (including employment, immigration and corporate governance).

He has advised multi-national organisations, including one of the world’s largest international steel companies. His work is predominantly in civil litigation representing on fast and multi track cases in all courts including the High Court and Court of Appeal. This involves all types of interim applications as well, including CMCs, drafting pleadings and substantive trial. He often appears on bankruptcy matters, setting aside statutory demands leading to trials on substantive issues.

Jayeshundertakes work on behalf of health professionals regarding their business affairs, disputes and fitness to practise. His particular niche is representing foreign qualified doctors applying for specialist registration in the UK via the General Medical Council’s (GMC) Certificate of Eligibility for the Specialist Register (CESR) (formerly known as PMETB – Article 14 route).

Over the past several years, Jayesh has travelled to India as part of various trade delegations with the UKTI. This has allowed him to develop the India Desk at his set where he advises companies interested in strengthening trade links between the two countries.

Jayesh acts in his personal and official capacity as the lead secretariat to the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Hindusadvising cross party MPs and Peers on issues effecting the community, political scenario in India and issues concerning the global Indian diaspora

Manan Singh is  Director of India Practice, Brown Rudnick LLP. He is a London-based litigator specialising in international litigation and arbitration, including not just the UK but also Europe, the United States, Middle East and Africa and offshore jurisdictions such as the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Jersey.

Given his background of being born and raised in India until school-leaving age, and now practising in the UK for the last 10 years, Mr. Singh is ideally placed to promote the international efforts and activities of INBA in the UK as a member of the Executive Committee for the UK Chapter.

Mr. Singh holds a LLB (Hons.) degree from the University of Manchester, as well as a LLM in International Business Law.

Pavani has been the Managing Partner of the firm since 2005 and specializes in large complex and high volume commercial disputes and International sanctions.

 Her practice areas include commercial litigation, international Arbitration and International sanctions. Many of her cases involve parties from multi jurisdictions. She has extensive experience in International sanctions, International Arbitrations, litigation matters involving energy, commodities, shipping, construction, company disputes and commercial issues for clients including some Fortune 500 companies.

Pavani handles high value commercial cases in the London High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of England and Wales and European Courts. She has also handled cases under various sets of arbitration rules including ICC, LCIA, DIFC, GAFTA and AAA and has a depth of experience in making applications, arising from Arbitrations, to the English Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal.

Few of the most important recent notable case handled by Pavani were Bank Mellat v HM Treasury, Bank Tejarat v EU Council, Hashwani v Jivraj, PEC v Asia Golden Rice and ASM v TTMI.

Pavani also has extensive experience in obtaining freezing injunctions, obtaining and defending security for costs orders.

She attends and is often invited to speak at various International Arbitration conferences in many jurisdictions. She is often featured in many international publications.

Awards/Scholarships

In 2010 Pavani was awarded the Gold Award for ‘Women of the Year’ at the Asian Achievers Award.

In 2011 she was awarded Glory of India Award.
